Creation of a mosaic panel depicting Edighna of Bavaria in St. Sophia Cathedral

The figure of the Ukrainian princess Edigna, granddaughter of Yaroslav the Wise, unites Catholics and Greek Catholics, emphasising the common Christian roots of European peoples. In 2021, the foundation opened a mosaic panel on the territory of the Sofia Kyivska reserve, which completes the triptych of panels with Ukrainian princesses (previously created by Anna Yaroslava and Ingigerda of Sweden). 

Edigna is a blessed Roman Catholic Church and the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. Daughter of King Henry I of France and Anna Yaroslav. According to one version, Edigna intended to reach Kyiv, but on the way, she had a dream that became a prediction for her: she should stay forever where she would hear the crowing of a rooster and the sound of a bell while riding in a cart. The prophecy came true near the village of Pukh in Bavaria. 

Edigna settled in the trunk of an old linden tree and lived there, like a nun in a cell, for over thirty years. She taught children to read, write, and instil Christian values. The preacher of the faith of Christ was given the gift of healing. The fame of the healer Edigna spread throughout Bavaria. 

Even during Edigna's lifetime, a temple was built near the linden tree, in which the blessed one was later buried.
